daniel menche
glass forest
(IMPORTANT)
Too many lunkheads don’t understand the subtlety, control and texture involved in making great noise, which is more akin to the mastership of avant-garde jazz than random knob-twiddling. Daniel Menche fully comprehends these concepts, and his 15-year career has been marked by a certain integrity that dominates his releases. Menche doesn’t overrun his noise with unnecessary sounds to fill up space; he knows that absence of sound is often more effective than total sound dominance, and he perpetuates a perfect balance between the two. Glass Forest sounds just as the title implies, like the sounds of nature within a mythical forest of glass. Crisp hi- and mid-range sounds squeak and crumble above thumping bass. This is Menche’s last CD, though he will continue recording for LP and his own DVDs. (importantrecords.com) |
