Over the last couple of years Ocean has established themselves as an unparalleled current in the East coast metal scene. Here Where Nothing Grows is their debut full length album of 3 rogue waves clocking in at a full 65 fathoms. This is a slow ancient doom harnessing the deep low end drone of the Earth/Sunn, Burzum's screams, the crushing heaviness of Buried At Sea, and even the art rock of Mogwai. However, these obvious audio touchstones couldn't possibly prepare you for Here Where Nothing Grows, an album that can only happen in one place, by one group in a coastal Maine city nestled against the crashing waves of the cold Atlantic sea.

Here Where Nothing Grows was originally recorded by a physically and emotionally exhausted Ocean at Volume Studios in Chicago with Sanford Parker (Buried At Sea/Pelican) at the tail end of a self destructive mini tour. The group returned home minus a drummer unhappy with the results of the Chicago sessions. With a new drummer in tow they immediately settled into a familiar studio in Portland and began the arduous task of re-recording Here Where Nothing Grows on their own. Two months later Ocean emerged rejuvenated with a brand new testament to what Ocean is and can be. A thundering low end, crushing sloth-slow riffs, and distant tortured vocals ;Here Where Nothing Grows is an unprecidented doom with each track pushing over 20 minutes.

(We've been receiving endless emails asking about the Ocean demo and whether or not we'll have it in stock. Apparently it's been flying out of shops and the group hasn't been able to keep up. The group typically has copies on tour & we're going to have a very limited edition vinyl version at some point.)

Ocean tours regularly and has shared stages with Lair of the Minotaur, Grief, Unearthly Trance, Dove, Buried Inside - Highly recommended if you like Neurosis, Burzum, Buried At Sea, Sunn 0))), Earth, Electric Wizard, downers, absynth, molasses, sloths, etc...

REVIEWS

“The sheer horror and terror in the landscape of silent noise and crushing landslides that they create here is no doubt the reason the best bands come out of the most obscure places. As Ocean hails from the wooded hide away state of Maine, closed in with nothing around but mountains, trees and the deep dark sea to guide you home. Well, with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a shotgun in the other, this would be the soundtrack to one's own suicidal breakdown. So for all those folks that enjoy that happy 'let's get high and bust out some jams,' this is not your trip. These motherfuckers lay it on thick and heavy, this isn't stoner doom, this is pure slit your wrists and break out the whiskey before I go, doom. If you ever want the feeling of being trapped in a dark enclosed environment then you found the perfect music to get you thru it all. I mean their demo had 2 songs and it's just over 25 minutes long, this is DOOM!" ~ Absolut Metal

"Those lamenting the absence of Buried at Sea ought to look into Ocean. Not to say that this Maine four-piece is a clone, but they have the same mind crushingly heavy sound that rips through the fabric of time and space and turns your brain into a mound of foul smelling jelly. Ocean’s sound is otherworldly, so the band most likely had demonic help in crafting their sound. They’re doom for people who like to spend lazy Sunday afternoons looking at crime scene photos. Awesome stuff." ~ Arzgarth, StonerRock.com
